A personal illustration created to capture the bond I share with my two cats. This piece began as a way to keep them close while I was preparing for a long trip abroad.
This illustration started during the lead-up to my Japan trip, when I felt the familiar mix of excitement and the quiet ache of leaving my pets behind for a while. I wanted something I could bring with me, something more meaningful than a simple photo, and decided to create a custom artwork featuring both of them together.
Since my two cats prefer to keep their distance in real life, I didn’t have a single photograph of them peacefully side by side. Instead, I went through my favorite photos of each of them and combined those references to design a composition that reflected the closeness I wanted to capture. I chose a realistic and gentle illustration style to portray them as they truly are, focusing on their expressions and small details that make them unique.
What began as a personal piece has become something I’d like to develop into a small series, perhaps a collection of custom prints created during future travels. This illustration is both a keepsake and a starting point for exploring how personal stories can be turned into meaningful artwork.
