Wandering Japan Illustrated Leaflet Design

Overview

A travel themed leaflet designed as part of my weekly self-initiated design challenges. This project combines layout design, travel research, and custom illustrations inspired by Japan’s visual charm.

Process

As part of my effort to grow both as a designer and an illustrator, I regularly assign myself weekly challenges that push me into unfamiliar topics and formats. For this particular week, I chose to design a folded travel leaflet for visitors exploring Japan. My goal was to understand the format as a real product and then build a complete, informative, and visually engaging solution.

I began by studying how travel leaflets function, how they fold, how content is organized, and what readers typically expect when picking one up. I researched practical travel tips, cultural notes, and helpful reminders, then grouped the information into clear sections and concise bullet points that would fit the structure of the leaflet.

To bring personality into the design, I created a set of custom illustrations meant to capture Japan’s iconic symbols and atmosphere. I worked with a hand-drawn, sketch-like style to make the artwork feel warm and approachable. The color palette, pink paper paired with red linework, was chosen intentionally to echo classic Japanese aesthetics while giving the leaflet a lively, memorable look.
